SAVALAN – ASPI Winery is now in the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ for the ‘World’s Largest Wooden Wine Barrel’

On December 18, 2024, a wine barrel at the SAVALAN – ASPI Winery factory was entered into the Guinness World Records™ as the ‘World’s Largest Wooden Wine Barrel’.

To develop the tourism infrastructure within the SAVALAN – ASPI Winery premises, it was decided to create a museum complex and to place there an unusually large wine barrel.

On February 21, 2020, the state visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to Rome, Italy took place. Within the framework of this visit, with the participation of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a business forum was held between the two countries. During the forum, SAVALAN – ASPI Winery and Garbellotto signed a contract to produce a large scale wooden wine barrel. The Garbellotto company was established in 1775 and has been one of the world’s most recognised wine barrel and barrique manufacturers since.

A team of more than fifty highly qualified barrel-making experts contributed their craftsmanship in the design and production of this outstanding engineering project. Due to its large dimensions, it was impossible to use the standard automatic production lines, hence, all of the barrel components were handmade. It took almost 5 years to create this unique barrel and finally, in June 2024, the barrel was installed in the museum complex.

Following this installation, SAVALAN – ASPI Winery was surprised by the offer from Garbellotto to apply to the Guinness World Records™ due to the extraordinary dimensions of the barrel. Both companies gathered and submitted all the necessary application documents, and then, after their review, the Guinness World Records™ office scheduled a visit of their representative to the winery.

On December 18th, in the presence of the official judge Mr. Patel Pravin Jasmatbhai, and from online witnessing by head office judges from the Guinness World Records™ organisation, the barrel was filled with wine. After completion of the necessary procedures, SAVALAN – ASPI Winery and Garbellotto were awarded the “Largest Wooden Wine Barrel” certificate. The barrel’s capacity is 66,579 litres, Its length – 4.9 m, and its diameter – 4.75 m.

The unique barrel filled with wine is located in the new museum complex on the territory of the SAVALAN – ASPI Winery, where every museum visitor has an opportunity to visit and witness this engineering marvel.
